Sweetbulk Horsefeeds

Print this page

When it comes to horse feed, there’s a huge variety of different blends and mixes to choose from.

Sweetbulk is a balanced ration for mature horses who are lightly exercised. It’s economical to feed and contains ingredients horses find attractive, including molasses, which increases the appetite of fussy eaters. Sweetbulk contains important Omega 3 oils and is cool, moist and palatable with no dust.

Sweetbulk contains a portion of non-digestible roughage which when fed continuously at the recommended rate, helps prevent build up of sand in the horse’s gut, reducing the risk of colic.

INTRODUCING YOUR HORSE TO SWEETBULK

All changes to a horse’s diet should made gradually, so blend Sweetbulk with your horse’s feed for the first four to five days, slowly increasing the amount each day.

Horses have small stomaches so it’s important to feed little and often, making sure they always have access to fresh, clean water.

Recommended introduction rates are as follows:

Day 1: Blend 20% of Sweetbulk in diet

Day 2: Blend 40% of Sweetbulk in diet

Day 3: Blend 60% of Sweetbulk in diet

Day 4: Blend 80% of Sweetbulk in diet

Day 5: 100% of Sweetbulk in diet.

IMPORTANT:

Sweetbulk MUST be introduced gradually, particularly in sandy areas. The high roughage content in Sweetbulk clears the digestive system and if excessive sand is present in the horse’s gut prior to the introduction of Sweetbulk, the build-up must be cleared gradually.

Sweetbulk should be fed at approximately 2-4% of bodyweight, depending on the amount of exercise the horse is doing, and should also be fed on a daily basis to prevent the feed drying out. The molasses in Sweetbulk can increase appetite but stick to the feeding recommendations outlined above, even if the horse wants more.

MIXING SWEETBULK WITH OTHER PRODUCTS

Sweetbulk can be safely missed with other products and is an ideal low cost replacement for wheaten or oaten chaff. It can also be used in conjunction with grain mixes or concentrates when higher levels of nutrition are needed to to increased activity.

STORING SWEETBULK

Sweetbulk should be stored in a cool, dry place. It contains mould inhibitors that prevent the growth of mould for moisture levels up to 22%. If the moisture levels exceed this, mould may start to develop.

DO NOT feed Sweetbulk if you are concerned that it contains mould.
