Shane Rose is determined to take one of the coveted five spots available on Australia’s London Olympic Eventing team. He’s certainly in form with Taurus…the horse he was bringing along with the London Olympics in mind when he was winning a silver medal in Beijing on All Luck. He’s competing this weekend at the Sydney International Three Day Event where he’s confident of making the grade…if he wins.

“If I win this event, then I stand a good chance of making the team,” he said.

“Failing that, I certainly want to be in the top couple.”

It’s a strong line-up of Australian event riders aiming for a start in the London Olympics. Australian-based riders include Sonja Johnson, Megan Jones, Christine Bates (aiming for her first Olympics) and Stuart Tinney. Aussies based overseas include Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks, Andrew Hoy, Wendy Schaeffer and Paul Tapner, giving selectors a wealth of in-form talent to choose from. The final team won’t be announced by Equestrian Australia until July. The final Australian qualifying event is the Melbourne International Three Day Event at the Werribee Equestrian Centre over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

But Shane is quietly confident.

”I couldn’t be happier with the horse and where we are at the moment, leading towards London.”
