ENTRIES CLOSE 11/08/2014 The friendly but fierce spirit of competition that exists between Qld and NSW is the basis of an Eventing State of Origin challenge. The Eventing “State of Origin “ event was inaugurated at the 2013 QI3DE and will again be contested at Morgan Park Warwick - 28th-31st August 2014. The idea came about as a consequence of the many highly talented Qld riders migrating to NSW to advance their careers in Eventing. Olympians, Stuart Tinney, Chris Burton and Rebel Morrow have been extremely successful as a result. Other high profile riders such as Emma Mason and John Toomey have also been 'lost to Qld' in similar fashion. This exodus perfectly mirrors the situation which prevailed in Rugby League for some decades where competitions between Qld and NSW were one sided due to most elite Qld RL players residing in NSW and being picked to play for NSW. As in Rugby League the QI3DE believes that, using the State of Origin principle, a team made up of original Queenslanders will provide very good competition for a team of original NSW riders. Hence the Eventing “State of Origin “ competition.
The format is for chosen teams of four (4) to represent both states . The scoring is as used in the Olympic Team Event. Eligibility to represent Qld or NSW is decided purely on the basis of where the rider first registered with the EFA for eventing. In essence where they commenced their eventing careers. In this way Qld can use original Queenslanders residing in NSW or elsewhere for that matter to form the Qld team and NSW may source their team using similar principles. It is proposed that the competition be run within the CCI 2* competition at the QI3DE. At this level it is hoped there will be an opportunity for younger riders and/or developing combinations to have the opportunity to represent their state, have experience of working in a team competition and provide the national selectors with another opportunity to assess the talent available in Australia. Winners take all purse with $1000 for each of the four members of the winning team as well as individual trophies and the successful state being inscribed on the State of Origin perpetual trophy. Each team rider will be provided with polo shirt, saddle cloths and individually named helmet covers branded in state colours. We look forward to welcoming home our Queenslander representatives and welcoming back, our NSW rivals. Cameron Osborne Chairman QI3DE
