As the old saying goes ... Build it and they will come. Well that was certainly the case with Round Two of the Australian Supercross held in the Main Arena at the showgrounds on Friday 14th October. 9 000 tonnes of dirt was excavated from the south west corner of the grounds to build the 750 metre long track; the largest in Australia. Riders from Australia and the United States converged to Toowoomba. On an unseasonally cold and windy night more the 3 000 people braved the conditions to witness some spectacular racing. With the event shown on Fox Sports, Toowoomba received international exposure which is great for the region.

The Spring Home Show and Caravan Expo was held at the beginning of the month. More than 10 000 visitors attended over the 3 days with the majority of the 150 exhibitors being from out of town. On the same weekend more than 200 competitors attended both the State Morgan Horse Show and Toowoomba & District Showjump Club 3 day event. The pleasure horse industry is valued in excess of $10 billion to the Australian economy each year and they do it with very little government support to the competitors and volunteers who compete and stage events every week across the country.

The 11th Division Lighthorse Troop held their mounted games in the middle of this month. 42 competitors travelled from across Australia to compete in what was the largest event of its type in Queensland. Dressed in their full Lighthorse Uniforms it was certainly a spectacle not to be missed.

We welcomed the SES for a two day training camp on the grounds on the 22nd & 23rd. The venue provided plenty of opportunities for emergency scenarios that will be used in real life experiences in the future. The society is pleased to be able to assist all the volunteers who give up their time as members of the SES.

We are also pleased to be working alongside the new management of the Hi Tec Oils Speedway at Charlton. Discussions have commenced about how both venues have similar community minded goals and therefore could be cross promoting at both venues events. The relationship has already bred a solid platform for resource and idea sharing, and looks to grow in the coming years into a solid partnership. Check out for the speedways Championship Grand Final on Good Friday only 2 weeks after the show.

The RASQ volunteers again staged a very successful Cancer Council Fundraiser. Almost 150 ladies attended a luncheon with plenty of raffles and fun for all. It is a credit to all involved who make the day so special. Almost $6 000 was raised. A big thanks to all who donated their time and products to make the day such a success.
